Old School Pin Board

My holiday season is extra busy this year kicking it off with my sister, Erin’s wedding on Thanksgiving Weekend.   My five year old turns the BIG six the following weekend and we have lots of planning, packing, prepping and purchasing going on over here!

I decided to convert my kitchen bulliten board into a mini command central with some pretty pics, and planning cards.  I have an envelope for all gifts and holiday related receipts, a recipe for an upcoming party, our holiday card shoot date, meals for the week and main events happening each week mapped out.

It was fun and I am happy to have a short list of the main things I want to make sure that I do this season.. like invite my beloved next door neighbors over for dinner and a girl night at my house and The Joffrey Nutcracker.

Don’t let the holidays go by and miss doing the top 5 things on your “happy” holiday list!
Ok, off to order an new copy of Love Actually on Amazon!

Cheers!

Black Magic, A True Story.

A year ago on October 28th, I wrote this post.

Which inspired the email below to arrive just a week later on November 4th … {click to enlarge it…}

After I pinched myself at the prospect, I contacted this lovely bride to be.  Her “many interests” revolving around her wedding covered everything from her alma mater ( Yale), and his (Princeton), their love of the Northeast, “old school style”, tradition, handwritten letters, F. Scott Fitzgerald, classic cocktails, elegance with a twist and Fall.

What else would good old Gatsby do but host a Ball?

And she did…. exactly a year to the date of my initial post we both realized a dream.  Black Magic Indeed.

The new Mr. & Mrs. arrive at their reception.

The lawn of The Cap and Gown Club greeted guests with a twinkling walkway speckled with albino pumpkins, luminaries, and votives.

The Father of The Bride in his Skull and Bones bow tie orders a cocktail.  The two cocktails of the evening were “The Handsome Dan” and “The Old Naussau” as an homage to their beloved Yale and Princeton ties.

F.Scott Fitzgerald quotes about each of the schools were printed on cocktail napkins and passed with their coordinating cocktail.

The entry way to The Cap and Gown Club was illuminated with loads of candlelight and flanked with gold monogrammed painted pumpkins.

Stunning, swirly Spencerian calligraphy by Stacey Shapiro made the escort card table magical and luxe.

In the tent three different table looks were created using black velvet, ivory silk and gold bengaline linen.  Gold mercury glass containers were filled with vendela roses, trios of white milk glass with combinations of gardenia, roses, magnolias and waxy greenery and large gold candleabra with custom black lampshades made up the three centerpieces offering a combination of luxe materials, varying heights creating the perfect balance of candlelight and floral.

The black water goblets, gold beaded chargers and satin napkins tied off with turkey feathers make all three table looks cohesive and “finished”.

The bride’s bouquet above was the perfect mix of elegance, style and still worked with the black and white theme of the entire event.

The guests danced and had desserts in the main dining room of The Club.  A black and white dessert buffet with ice cream cake, black and white cookies and custom Yale and Princeton Chocolates provided the perfect “Sweet Sendoff”.

This magical evening was held at and catered by The Cap and Gown Club in Princeton, NJ.  The floral, decor and lighting were beautifully executed by Viburnum Designs, Princeton.

Destination Details

Good morning from Grenada, WI. I came down here for a little Rest and Inspiration.  I have been working out of the “office” above all week and my wheels have been spinning.  It is truly amazing the difference you feel in your approach to life and work when you change your scenery, let the daily demands go and just allow yourself to dream about what’s next.  I had a birthday while I was here as well.  I feel totally recharged and inspired by all of my current clients.  Ideas are flowing from my business to my blog and I cannot wait to get started.  Word to the wise.. take breaks- they pay off at home.

I brought my usual heap of magazines on this trip and the New Martha Stewart Destinations and Honeymoons issue.  I love the a destination wedding no longer conjures up images of drinks with umbrellas and seashells, but rather a multitude of options using the best of the culture, colors and culinary creations of each locale.

Here is a little collage of some of my favorite Destination Details in this issue.

Make Me Pretty, Please!

About two years ago now I was looking for the perfect graphic designer… someone who would not only get the vision, level of quality, and style that I had in my head… but be able to translate that into creating my perfect brand.  I wanted clean, classic, fresh and first of a kind.  After trolling all over the web… I found my girl of all places in my hometown of Washington, DC.  I emailed sugarB studio begging for her to work with me.  It was the beginning of a beautiful brand and friendship and so much more to come.

Kari launched sugarB’s brand new site today!  It is such a showcase of style and true testament of her work.

You may recognize these pretty little cards above?

Or this stunning invitation that was the beginning of the perfectly plum party!  Branded to T… I mean, H & B.

Kari is the designer behind many lovely creative brands.  I am so fortunate that I found such a perfect partner to work with as I feel WE own my brand.  She is the perfect teammate.  I could not be happier that she has a passion for paper as much as the web and we now work on custom wedding paper suites for couples who are all about the perfect font, pantone, and print job!

Congratulations, KBB!

A True Two Cities Wedding Weekend

Good Monday Morning from Chicago!

I am still on cloud nine from an amazing Two Weddings in Two Cities weekend!  Friday I did H & B’s wedding at the Four Seasons in Georgetown…

Saturday morning I flew home early for J & T’s gorgeous black tie ball at The River East Art Center in sparkly downtown Chicago.

Both were perfect!  I will share a few more iPhone snapshots and some of the fun highlights later today.  For now.. time to unpack and enjoy a little coffee and the morning sunshine.

Compost Breakfast Cookies!

I have been so intrigued by the compost cookie trend.  I have a bride at the moment who adores Momofuku’s Famous Compost Cookies!  She shared a few of hers with me recently and I see why.  I was also recently inspired by Martha’s breakfast cookies.

Last night my five year old and I decided to take the best of both and make our own batch!  My recipe and images are above.  It made getting breakfast done fast and fun today!  I love this as a fall healthy treat.  They turned out incredible!  The batch makes about two and half dozen!  Be ready to share!  I already delivered mine everywhere!
